As New Jersey's director of core technology research and development at Franklin Lakes, Hermel-Davidock added that there are multiple stringent requirements for the product in terms of equipment production, sterilization, and resin handling. The company manufactures syringes, needles, IV catheters, surgical instruments and some similar products at 30 locations around the world.
In developed countries, current global trends include expanding access to healthcare, ageing populations and rising costs, she said. The industry needs to change how resins are screened and formulated, and there is still a lot of work to be done in medical plastics.
